Donat is a poet, book designer and publisher of Sipat Publications. He has won the Palanca Award for Literature and the Gawad Galian. In 1988, he was the Local Fellow for poetry of the University of the Philippines Institute for Creative Writing. His works are part of the anthologies for Introduction to Philippine Literature by the Ateneo de Manila University, Paano Magbasa ng Panitikan (How to Read Literature) by the University of the Philippines, Literature of Protest by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and Selected Winning Works of the Palanca Awards for Literature.
Donat took up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. He now lives in Loyola Heights with his wife Marla and son Sandino.
